Background

In May 2018, Grande revealed via Twitter that Minaj called her in the morning and recorded what would be their next musical collaboration. On June 4, Grande replied to a follower on the same social network suggesting that there would be more than one collaboration between her and Minaj during 2018. Minaj announced via Instagram the title and release date of the single on June 11, 2018, and said it will be available with the pre-order of her fourth studio album, Queen.

The music video for the song was teased on June 14, 2018. On June 19, 2018, a teaser of the music video was uploaded on Minaj's YouTube channel. On July 6, 2018, Minaj revealed that there are two videos for the song as "there were 2 directors involved". That same day, one of the music videos was uploaded on Minaj's YouTube channel.
