"Better Left Unsaid" (originally titled "Tipsy")[1] is the twelfth and final track from Ariana Grande's debut album Yours Truly. It was released through Republic Records on September 3, 2013.
Live performances[]
"Better Left Unsaid" was part of the setlist from her debut tour The Listening Sessions.
Trivia[]
- Grande stated on Twitter that the song was originally titled "Tipsy".
- The lyric "Don't play me, just kiss me" was originally written as "Don't blame me, I'm tipsy".
- Grande changed the name of the song to make it more family friendly, as well as the fact that she was underage prior to the release of the album.
- Jordin Sparks recorded the song originally for herself, however it was later given to Ariana.[1]
- This song showcases a different style of music that Ariana is not accustomed to; dance music. It strongly differences her first single "The Way" but likens her other singles like "Break Free" in its composition.
- This was the first time Grande experimented with EDM in a released song, however the earliest known dance song of hers is an unreleased song called Human.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I told you once, "Get out my life, I don't need ya, I'll be alright."
But some things are better left unsaid
So tell the truth and hit me hard, my broken heart is all I have now
But some things are better left unsaid
[Pre-Chorus]
And I swore that I would never say
"I miss you more every day"
But some things are better left unsaid
Are better left unsaid, said, said...
[Chorus]
Oh, I'm gonna say things like, "Shut up and kiss me!"
Oh, tonight I'm gonna lose some face, don't blame me, just kiss me
If you wanna party, put your hands up
Put your hands up put your hands up
Don't blame me, just kiss me, oh
Tonight I'll say things, don't play me, just kiss me, babe
[Verse 2]
I could tell a lie, blame tonight, too many drinks
So many reasons that, some things are better left unsaid
[Pre-Chorus]
And I swore that I would never say
"I miss you more every day"
But some things are bettper left unsaid
Are better left unsaid, said, said...
[Chorus]
Oh, I'm gonna say things like, "Shut up and kiss me!"
Oh, tonight I'm gonna lose some face, don't blame me, just kiss me
If you wanna party, put your hands up
Put your hands up put your hands up
Don't blame me, just kiss me, oh
Tonight I'll say things, don't play me, just kiss me, babe
If you wanna party, put your hands up
Put your hands up put your hands up
Don't blame me, just kiss me, oh
Tonight I'll say things, don't play me, just kiss me, babe
[Post-Chorus]
If you wanna party, put your hands up
Put your hands up put your hands up
If you wanna party, put your hands up
Put your hands up put your hands up
[Outro]
You tell a lie, blame tonight
Too many drinks, so many reasons that some things are better left unsaid
