"Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" (stylized in all lowercase) is the third and final single, and the twelfth track, from Ariana Grande's fifth studio album, Thank U, Next. It was released on February 8, 2019, along with its official music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis.

A live version of the song is featured on K Bye For Now (SWT Live), which was released on December 23, 2019.

Background

The song was registered on APRA (Australian Performing Right Association) in January 2019. It was confirmed part of Thank U, Next track listing on January 22, 2019.

A snippet of "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" was uploaded via Instagram on January 23, 2019. When asked why she decided to put it on the album, Grande said that she thought it was funny and that she liked the idea of ending a more honest and vulnerable project with a "punchline".

Grande announced the song would serve as the third single from the album on February 5, 2019.

The song samples NSYNC's "It Makes Me Ill".

Commercial performance

On the week ending February 23, 2019, the song debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. With "7 Rings" and "Thank U, Next" occupying number 1 and number 3, respectively, Grande became the second artist to occupy the top 3 on the chart since The Beatles in 1964. However, Grande is the first solo artist to have 3 songs in the top 3.

The song debuted at number one in the United Kingdom's Official Singles Chart with 85,000 combined sales in its first week. She dethroned her single "7 Rings" of the number one, and became the second female artist to occupy the number one and number two spots on the chart since Madonna in August 1985. Grande also made history by becoming the first female artist to replace herself at number one on the UK Singles Chart.

The song also debuted at number one in Ireland, becoming her fifth single to top the chart.

Music video

The official music video of the song was filmed in December 2018. It premiered along with the album Thank U, Next on February 8, 2019. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who directed Grande's previous videos including "7 Rings" and "Thank U, Next", the music video was filmed in Hollywood Hills, California and stars Grande with American actors Charles Melton and Ariel Yasmine.

The behind-the-scenes video was uploaded on Grande's YouTube channel on February 12, 2019.

Live performances

Grande debuted the song live at the Sweetener World Tour, which began on March 18, 2019. The song was a regular part of the setlist.
