To me, a dangerous woman is someone who’s not afraid to take a stand, be herself and to be honest.

Ariana Grande on Billboard talking about the song's name

"Dangerous Woman" is the lead single and second track from Ariana Grande's third studio album with the same title. It was released through Republic Records on March 11, 2016. A live version of the song is featured on K Bye For Now (SWT Live), which was released on December 23, 2019.

Background[]

On January 17, 2016, Grande teased lyrics from the song on Twitter.[1] Two months later on March 1, 2016, she released the first snippet of "Dangerous Woman" onto her website of the same name. The snippet was a cappella clip.[2][3] She later shared an instrumental snippet of the song onto both her Snapchat and Instagram accounts with the caption reading "6 Days till Dangerous Woman".[4]

A week later on March 7, 2016, Grande shared onto her Snapchat a second snippet of the song with the caption '3'.[5] Two days later March 9, 2016, a preview of the song was featured in the Victoria's Secret Swim Special. It played for about a minute.

Grande debuted the song on Saturday Night Live on March 12, 2016. She released a recorded acapella version of the full on March 21, 2016.[6] Grande performed this song at the MTV Movie Awards with Jason Robert Brown on April 10, 2016. Her brother, Frankie Grande, later made a reaction video of him watching her performance.[7]

On April 25, 2016, Grande also performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. On April 30, 2016, Grande performed the song at the Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMAs), though a large portion of it had to be censored because of Disney's largely-young audience. "Locked and loaded", "skin to skin" and "bulletproof" were all left out, and "bad girls underneath like that" was replaced with "all girls wanna be like that".

Visual 1 is more slow and sexy, whereas Visual 2 was supposed to be more "cinematic".[8] She later confirmed that Visual 2 It was discarded, making a lost media.[9][10]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Oh, yeah
Don't need permission, made my decision, to test my limits
Cause it's my business, God as my witness, stop what I finished
Don't need no hold up, taking control of, this kind of moment
I'm locked and loaded, completely focused, my mind is open

[Pre-Chorus]
All that you got
Skin to skin
Oh my God
Don't you stop, boy

[Chorus]
Somethin' bout you makes me feel like a dangerous woman
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout

[Verse 2]
Nothing to prove and, I'm bulletproof and, know what I'm doing
The way we're moving, like introducing, us to a new thing
I wanna savour, save it for later
The taste of flavour, cause I'm a taker
Cause I'm a giver, it's only nature, I live for danger

[Pre-Chorus]
All that you got
Skin to skin
Oh my God
Don't you stop, boy (Oh, yeah)

[Chorus]
Somethin' bout you (Somethin' bout you) makes me feel like a dangerous woman
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't (Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't)
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout (Somethin' bout), somethin' bout (Somethin' bout you)

[Post-Chorus]
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' bout, somethin' bout) (Somethin' bout)
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that (Bad girls underneath, like that)
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' bout, somethin' bout)

[Instrumental Bridge]
Mmmm, oh

[Chorus]
Somethin' bout you (Somethin' bout you) makes me feel like a dangerous woman (Feel like a dangerous woman)
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't (Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't, babe)
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout (Somethin' bout you)

[Post-Chorus]
All girls wanna be like that (Mmmm)
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside (You know how I'm feeling inside, babe)
(Somethin' bout, somethin' bout)
All girls wanna be like that (Like that)
Bad girls underneath, like that (-neath like that)
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' bout, somethin' bout)

[Outro]
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy (Ah)
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy (Oh, yeah)
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout you (Somethin' bout you)
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy (Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy)
Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy (Yeah, there's somethin' bout you boy)
Somethin' bout, somethin' bout, somethin' bout you (Somethin' bout you)
