Demetria Devonne "Demi" Lovato[1] (born August 20, 1992) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and actress. She is friends with Ariana Grande.
Friendship
Grande first tweeted that lovato sounded "amazing" on her single "Heart Attack."[2] Shortly after, Grande's older brother Frankie Grande created a mash-up of Lovato and Grande's singles "Heart Attack" and "The Way". After hearing the mash-up, Lovato tweeted that she "loved it" and hinted that she wanted to collaborate with Grande.[3]
In an interview with in July 2013, Lovato said that a collaboration with Grande was in the works.[4]
In July 2015, Grande had her wisdom teeth removed so Lovato replaced her as the heading act for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game concert. Lovato performed her song "Made in the USA" and asked the crowd, "Who's proud to be an American?" Some fans believed Lovato was throwing shade at Grande because of her donut controversy where she said negative things about America. However, Lovato confirmed that she was not talking about Grande.[5]
When Lovato's album Confident was released in October 2015, Grande tweeted that Lovato's vocals were amazing.[6] Grande and lovato were photographed together at the 2015 American Music Awards.
Grande and Lovato went hiking to the Charles Manson’s “murder” mansion in February 2016.[7][8]
Trivia
- Ariana originally performed the demo of the song "You're My Only Shawty" which ended up on Demi's 2011 album Unbroken. Some people have created a mashup duet between the two.
- Ariana said while doing Yours Truly fun facts on Twitter, that she originally wanted "You'll Never Know" to be a girl power duet with Demi Lovato.[9]
