Rumours about the song started around June 2019 after Cyrus reportedly liked an Instagram post about a collaboration with Grande and Del Rey.[3] On June 22, the official GIPHY account for the upcoming Charlie's Angels film tagged the three singers in a now-deleted post, fueling those rumours.[4]
The song was announced on June 26, 2019 and a snippet was included in the film's trailer, released the following day.[5][6]
