Edward Butera (born September 19, 1958)^[1] is an American graphic designer, photographer and artist. He's also Joan's 2^nd ex-husband, Ariana's father and Frankie's ex-stepfather. He is the owner/founder of IBI Designs, Inc. He is very proud of his daughter and often tweets about her on his Twitter page, He also talks and posts photos of her and them together on his Instagram. @CaptainEddieB.

Life

Edward Charles Butera was born and raised on September 19, 1958 in Maplewood, New Jersey. He graduated from the NYIT in 1981 with a degree in advertising and design. Edward then worked at different design companies in New York City where he met Joan in the early 1990's. They got married in 1992 in Manhattan and moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1993 when Joan was pregnant with their daughter. On June 26, 1993, their daughter: Ariana Grande-Butera was born. Edward was the stepdad of Frankie (Joan's son from a previous marriage) for over 10 years. They all lived together in Boca Raton until Joan and Edward divorced in 2002 when Ariana was 8 and Edward moved out. Currently, Edward continues to live in Florida.^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]

Relationship with Ariana

Ariana shows that she loves her dad very much.
Eddie uses the picture Ariana took with him as his twitter icon.
Ariana gave her dad a signed picture that says I love you six times.^[6]
Eddie has a shirt with Ariana's name embroidered on it.^[7]
He came to see Ariana perform in A Snow White Christmas.^[8]
Ariana has a lot of family on Eddie's side of the family.^[9]
Ariana tweeted about him a few times.^[10]
When Ariana's Girls' Life magazine came out, Eddie bought a copy.^[11]
Eddie tweeted a picture of him and Ariana along with greeting her a happy birthday.^[12]
They made a painting of a shell together once.^[13]
Eddie tweeted a picture of a papier mache bowl they made together when Ariana was 5 years old.^[14]
He wants to teach her how to fish.^[15]
Sometime in 2013, Ariana and her father lost touch. Ariana talked about in the September 2014 issue of Seventeen magazine and said it was the hardest thing she ever had to deal with. She went on to say that, "the thing that got me there was embracing the fact that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them."^[16]
When Yours Truly came out, he bought two copies.^[17]
On Father's Day 2014, Ariana tweeted "happy Father's Day to all the incredible fathers out there... thinking of you today daddy. love u."^[18]
Eddie went to Ariana's Miami show during The Honeymoon Tour on March 28, 2015.^[19]
They made a painting together.^[20]
Ariana mentioned him and Joan Grande in "Thank U, Next" and adressed her parents' divorce.
He went to Ariana's Miami show in her Sweetener World Tour on June 1, 2019.^[21]
On August 2019, a fan asked "Do you see Ariana a lot or not?" Ed replied with the following: "I see her not as much as I would like, but we talk regularly." Confirming that they keep in touch, but don't see each other very often.^[22]
