Edward Butera (born September 20, 1958) is Ariana Grande's father, Frankie Grande's ex-stepfather, and Joan Grande's ex-husband. He is the owner/founder of IBI Designs, Inc. He is very proud of his daughter and often tweets about her on his Twitter page, @CaptainEddieB.


Eddie was born on September 20, 1958 and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey. He graduated from the NYIT in 1981 with a degree in advertising and design. He then worked at different design companies in New York City where he met Joan Grande in the early '90s. They got married moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1993 when Joan was pregnant with their daughter, Ariana who was born that year. Eddie was stepfather to Frankie (Joan's son from a previous marriage) for over 10 years. They all lived together in Boca until Joan and Eddie split up when Ariana was 8 or 9 and Eddie moved out. Currently, Eddie continues to live in Florida.[2][3][4][5][6]

  • Sometime in 2013, Ariana and her father lost touch. Ariana talked about in the September 2014 issue of Seventeen magazine and said it was the hardest thing she ever had to deal with. She went on to say that, "the thing that got me there was embracing the fact that that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them."[17]
