Background[]
BIA mentioned Trap Vogue in her interview with Vibe magazine in September 2016.[2] She called it a high-energy project that will be coming out before her debut album; she confirmed on Twitter that it will be her next release.[3]
Ariana first shared snippets of the song in October, 11, 2016, on her instagram when she posted herself lip singing the song in her car.[4] She then posted a couple days later, sharing more snippets of herself lip-synching the song again on October 17, 2016.[5]
Ariana Grande performed "Esta Noche" for the first time live beginning with BIA as a guest during her performances on February 19, 2017, concert at the Dangerous Woman Tour in Manchester and New Hampshire. BIA then appeared at two more shows in the United States and later followed Grande to serve as the opening act for 8 more shows on the European leg of the tour. They soon performed it once more during the show in Buffalo, New York.
The song was said to be created for BIA’s debut EP, “Trap Vogue”, but after pushbacks to the release date, fans have had doubts about whether the track will see the light of day. Rumors of the track circulated being scrapped due to alleged copyright issues. It has been confirmed scrapped due to a sampling issue that Bia does not have rights to.
During January 2018, the song was registered on ASCAP Ace Repertory.[6] On January 15, 2018, Bia tweeted, "I have not registered any new songs, I don't know who did & I have someone looking into it." She also added that her new project will not be called Trap Vogue and that she changed the name a long time ago.[7] The tweets have been deleted.
On April 12, 2018, Bia replied to a fan on Twitter and confirmed that the song would still be released: "It'll come when I put it out until then shut up."[1]
A 32 second snippet was leaked by Music Mafia on July 5, 2018. A day later On July 6, 2018, "Esta Noche" was leaked online through SoundCloud.
On September 21, 2018, BIA replied to a fan on Twitter that the song would be coming soon.[8]
