This article is about the song. For its corresponding album, see Eternal Sunshine (album).
It feels very much like the centerpiece of the album to me; the glue that ties all of this fun with the sad.

–Grande describing the song.

"Eternal Sunshine" (stylized in all lowercase) is the fifth track from Ariana Grande's seventh studio album of the same name. This song was released on March 8, 2024, through Republic Records.

Background[]

In early January of 2024, Grande started teasing her next era. On January 12, 2024, she released "Yes, And?" as the lead single of her forthcoming seventh studio album. Eternal Sunshine, Grande's seventh album, was announced on January 17, with an official release date for March 8, 2024.

On January 27, 2024, Grande revealed the fifth album cover and showed a part of the tracklist including this song and "Intro (End of the World)".

When asked about "Eternal Sunshine" becoming the name of the album in her interview with Zach Sang, Grande had stated, "Well, I've always loved that movie since I was a little girl. I am a huge Jim Carrey fan, I always have been and I was always sort of attracted to the idea of writing a song around that but I think once I realized that the rest of the songs were kinda forming a story that felt kind of similar to "Eternal Sunshine" where there's sort of this like cycle that, you know, that everyone's trying to break, I kinda just.. fell into place."[1]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I, I don't care what people say
We both know I couldn't change you
I guess you could say the same
Can't rearrange truth
I've never seen someone lie like you do
So much, even you start to think it's true
Ooh, get me out of this loop, yeah, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
So now we play our separate scenes
Now, now she's in my bed, layin' on your chest
Now I'm in my head, wonderin' how it ends

[Chorus]
I'll be the first to say, "I'm sorry"
Now you got me feelin' sorry
I showed you all my demons, all my lies
Yet you played me like Atari
Now it's like I'm lookin' in the mirror
Hope you feel alright when you're in her
I found a good boy and he's on my side
You're just my eternal sunshine, sunshine

[Verse 2]
So I try to wipe my mind
Just so I feel less insane
Rather feel painless
I'd rather forget than know, know for sure
What we could've fought through behind this door, hm-mm
So I close it and move, yeah, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
So now we play our separate scenes
Now, now he's in your bed, layin' on my chest
Now I'm in my head, wonderin' how it ends, ends, ends

[Chorus]
I'll be the first to say, "I'm sorry"
Now you got me feelin' sorry
I showed you all my demons, all my lies
Yet you played me like Atari
Now it's like I'm lookin' in the mirror
Hope you feel alright when you're in her
I found a good boy and he's on my side
You're just my eternal sunshine, sunshine

[Bridge]
Won't break, can't shake
This fate, rewrite
Deep breaths, tight chest
Life, death, rewind
Won't break, can't shake
This fate, rewrite
Deep breaths, tight chest
Life, death

[Chorus]
I'll be the first to say, "I'm sorry"
Now you got me feelin' sorry
I showed you all my demons, all my lies
Yet you played me like Atari
Now it's like I'm lookin' in the mirror
Hope you feel alright when you're in her
I found a good boy and he's on my side
You're just my eternal sunshine, sunshine

[Outro]
Rewind
Won't break, can't shake
This fate, rewrite
Deep breaths, tight chest
Life, death, rewind
Won't break, can't shake
This fate, rewrite
Deep breaths, tight chest
Life, death, rewind
Won't break, can't shake
This fate, rewrite
Deep breaths, tight chest
Life, death
