The Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival started in 2012 and organized by Global Poverty Project. It was founded by Ryan Gall and Hugh Evans. Grande did a surprise performance at the festival in 2015.

The British band Coldplay headlined the event during the 2015 edition in New York City alongside Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran. Grande was invited by Coldplay to perform a song from her sophomore album My Everything for a surprise appearance on September 26, 2015.
