The song was originally performed by the teen group The Jackson 5 in 1969. It was performed in the second season two-part Victorious special "Locked Up!", which premiered July 30th, 2011. "I Want You Back" is performed by the whole cast of the television show, which only Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, Leon Thomas III, and Liz Gillies had solos, as their respective roles. The performance features the actors stuck in a Yerbanian prison and performing the song to the Chancellor as part of their plan to escape and get back to the US.
It is also featured on the series 2011 soundtrack, Victorious (Music from the Hit TV Show).[1]
