Background

This song contains many allusions to the Law of Attraction, a philosophy that states, through enough energy and attention, the universe can manifest a person’s thoughts whether they’re positive or negative. This belief stems from the idea that "like attracts like"—negative thoughts will manifest negative energy towards you, and similarly, positive thoughts will manifest positive energy. Throughout "Just Like Magic," Ariana is focusing on embodying and maintaining a positive and forward-looking future with good energy.

On June 25, 2023, the demo was leaked. Despite the demo being recorded years back, she finished the song and put the song on the Positions album. Another demo of the song leaked on July 22, 2023.
