On December 9, 2023, Grande suddenly shared Carey's backstage post on her Instagram stories stating that there would be two special guests at her show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Grande came on stage with Carey and Jennifer Hudson as a surprise performance. This was Grande's first live performance since 2021.
