"Met Him Last Night" is a single by both Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande. The song was featured on Lovato's album “Dancing with the Devil... the Art of Starting Over”. The song was first recorded during the early Positions recording sessions, but it wasn’t intended for the album. It was released through Island Records on April 2, 2021.[3] In the title, the "him" in question is the devil.[4][5]
Background[]
The song was first teased during Lovato's New York Times interview on March 16, 2021.[6] Grande confirmed the collaboration via Twitter on March 22, 2021 by quoting Lovato's tweet with the song title.[7][8] During the same month, Ariana posted a recording on her Instagram story. The recording featured her singing background vocals for the song and the post was captioned "backgrounds on a song for a friend :)."[source?]
Demi Lovato revealed in an interview that Ariana Grande wrote the song for Demi after hearing "Dancing With The Devil" with the intent of Demi singing it solo, but Demi convinced Ariana to sing the song with them as a duet, saying they had "finally found their song to sing together"
On April 29, 2023 a snippet of Grande's demo leaked. The full demo leaked on May 18, 2023.

Vulture described the collaboration as "a near-perfect vocal combo." The magazine also called Lovato and Grande "two lyrical geniuses" and stated that the song is "hot and even a bit hellish."[9] Billboard described the collaboration as a "dark, twisted fantasy about chilling with the devil and finding out that, well, he's kind of a funny, chill dude who might be relationship material."[10] Seventeen Magazine stated that the collaboration "lives up to everything we've been waiting for."[11]

"Met Him Last Night" debuted at #61 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the chart week of April 17, 2021.[12] It also debuted at #24 on Global Spotify and at #12 on U.S. Spotify.

- Dave Audé's remix of the song was nominated at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for "Best Remixed Recording" but Lovato and Grande aren't credited.
- In 2013, Ariana said she wanted to do a song with Demi, but it just didn't work out. Then, in 2017, Demi talked to Vevo saying they would love to collab with Ari, but "finding the right song for two girls to sing is really difficult."[11]
