It was a very exciting thing for me to all of a sudden have this new mission, to make something as special as Yours Truly, and to put my time and effort into something new and something I want to make just as good, if not better.

–Ariana Grande on her second album[1]

My Everything[2] is the sophomore album by Ariana Grande, which was released on August 25, 2014.[3] The lead single is titled "Problem" and features Australian rapper Iggy Azalea.[4] The second single "Break Free" features Zedd. You can buy the album here.

Background

Following the release of Grande's debut studio album Yours Truly in September 2013 which was met with positive reviews, Grande confirmed she began working and writing on the album. Recording sessions began in October 2013 and she had a meeting with Republic Records to discuss the album that same month.[5] Grande was initially aiming at releasing the album around February 2014.

It was announced on March 3, 2014 that Grande would be featured on the fifth single from Chris Brown's upcoming sixth studio album X titled "Don't Be Gone Too Long". The single was originally set for release on March 25, 2014, however was postponed due to Brown being sent to jail awaiting trail on assault charges. Grande had announced the songs delay on March 17, 2014 and that same night she held a live stream to make up for the singles delay, where she previewed four new songs from her second album: "My Everything", "You Don't Know Me", "Only 1," and "Too Close." Two days later following the announcement Grande revealed due the songs delay, she would be releasing the first single from her upcoming sophomore studio album instead. She finished working on the album in late May.[6]

Release

The album was scheduled to be released in the UK, Ireland, Germany, and all Oceania countries on August 22, 2014. Provided New Zealand and Australia are 18-12 hours ahead of America, the album was released on the correct dates in such territories which resulted in an August 21 "leak" for most other countries.[7][8] It was released in the United States and worldwide on August 25, 2014. Then, My Everything was the fastest album to hit #1 on iTunes in America.

Singles

On April 28, 2014, the album's first single "Problem" was released as a digital download. It features Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. Problem was released to mainstream radio in the US and several countries worldwide the day following its release. The song became a Top 10 hit, debuting at #3 and eventually peaking at #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming her highest peaking single to date.

The album's second single "Break Free" was released July 2, 2014. It features electronic music producer Zedd. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Though not an official single, a special rendition of "Baby I" (a song from Ariana's first album, Yours Truly) featuring Japanese violinist Taro Hakase was released as a pre-single to Japanese customers exclusively on August 6, 2014. This is the only track off My Everything to be sold in only one region.

On August 12, "Best Mistake" was released as a promotional single to those who have pre-ordered the album on iTunes.

On September 30, "Love Me Harder was released as the third single.

On February 10, 2015, "One Last Time" was released as the fourth single.
