Background

In early 2014 Ariana Grande began to work on her second studio album. She had a meeting with Republic Records to discuss the album. Ariana will experiment with new sounds for this album. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she says, "It’s an album that I want to do a little bit different. I don’t want it to sound like an extension of Yours Truly. I want it to sound like an evolution. I want to explore more sounds and experiment a little bit. I have a bunch of ideas I’m very excited about and a lot of stuff." Ryan Tedder, Key Wayne, Thomas Brown, and Benny Blanco were all confirmed to be working on the album. Grande was confirmed that she was working on a single with Chris Brown titled "Don't Be Gone Too Long". It was supposed to be released sometime in late March but was delayed because of Brown's sentence to jail. To make up for this, Grande did a live chat for her fans where she played multiple new songs, some of which include "My Everything" and "They Don't Understand". In mid-April Ariana chose the lead single from the album whose title was later revealed as "Problem". She premiered it at the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards. The song features Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. The song was very successful landing in the top ten of many countries including the United States where it debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

• On her Facebook account she said "I think I want to name the album after 1 of the songs I finished this weekend. It makes me cry! It's very special & honest."
• Ariana said that she loves this album five times more than Yours Truly.
• Russian-German musician Zedd collaborated on a track, making it Ariana Grande's first EDM (Electronic Dance Music) song. Ariana has said she wants this song to be the second single.
• Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber collaborated on a song together, however, the song not be featured on Ariana's second album.
• Ariana Grande confirmed that the Justin Bieber duet did not make the album, but will be published for a thank you for their fans.</ref>[3]</ref>
• On May 8, the tracklist was leaked onto Ariana's facebook page.
• Ariana tweeted, "Cause if the water dries up and the moon stops shining stars fall and the world goes blind boy u know... I'll be savin my love for u" and then tweeted that it was the favorite line from her favorite song on the new album.
• The name of the album is rumored to titled Black and White.
