Background
On October 4, 2018, Grande dropped a 45-second snippet on her Instagram with the caption "tell me how good it feels to be needed".[2]
On November 5, 2018, Ariana posted a second snippet alongside a video of Piggy Smallz on her Instagram Story.[3]
The song was also teased on the music video released on November 7, 2018, for Grande's single "Breathin", from her fourth studio album, Sweetener.[4] On November 15, Grande shared a video of her singing a part of "Needy" with a piano.[5]
Lyrics
From snippets:
I say sorry way too much
You can go ahead and call me selfish (selfish)
But after all this damage I can't help it (help it)
The one you can trust, ’cause I need your touch
I'mma scream and shout the one I love
Passionate but I don't give no fucks
I admit that I’m a lil' messed up
But I can hide it when I'm all dressed up
I'm obsessive and I love too hard
Good at overthinking with my heart
How you even think it got this far?
This far
And I can be needy, way too damn needy
I can be needy, tell me how good it feels to be needed
I can be needy, so hard to please me
I know it feels so good to be needed
