Recently, Grande said on an interview with Jimmy Fallon, that she had called Nickelodeon when she was four years old asking for an audition. Ariana had stated she wanted to either be on 'All That' or 'The Amanda Show'. In 2009, Ariana's childhood dream came true and she landed the role of Cat Valentine on Victorious alongside her 13: The Musical co-star, Liz Gillies.

Grande left Nickelodeon in 2014 and said, “I left Nickelodeon recently because I needed to move forward with my life.”

In 2024, Dan Schneider, director of Sam & Cat and Victorious was accused of sexualizing Grande and other cast mates. Though Grande has never publicly herself confirmed any of accusations, other child stars have come forward saying that they were given hush money to never speak of their experiences with Schneider. Grande on other occasions has stated that playing Cat Valentine affected her identity as a young adult because she didn't relate to the character and says that it then made finding herself as a person harder.
