"Over And Over Again" is a song by British singer Nathan Sykes. A remix, featuring Ariana Grande was released on January 15, 2016, through Global Entertainment.
Background
In August 2013, Grande released a duet with Sykes called "Almost Is Never Enough" for the soundtrack of the City of Bones and later featured on Grande's debut album, Yours Truly. Dating rumors between the two started to begin shortly after and the two confirmed these the following months. SYkes and Grande dated for a few months before breaking up in December.
Through 2014 and 2015, Sykes did several interviews in which he confirmed they were still friends and continued to talk. This friendship did not extend too far as the pair were never seen in public together as well as no mention of it on either one's social media. Sykes also stated that he was working on some songs for his first album about Grande.[1]
Release
Sykes released "Over and Over Again" as a solo artist in October 2015 to serve as the second single for his upcoming debut album, Unfinished Business. In January 2016, it was announced that the song would be re-released with Grande as a featured artist.[2]
In an interview with Billboard, Sykes said, "I sat there listening to the song when it came on the radio in the U.K., and I said, 'You know who'd sound great on this?' -- it was just a really random thought -- 'Ariana. She'd sound fantastic on this song.' And obviously, we'd done 'Almost Is Never Enough' before, on her debut album Yours Truly, and that's where I met my executive producer Harmony Samuels. He's just fantastic. And that's who I wrote 'Over and Over Again' with. So it's kind of come full-circle. She was really up for it, and she went in and put down an amazing, just beautiful vocal."[3] He also said the duet wasn't awkward because they dating what seems like "forever" ago and they are both mature.[4]
Trivia
- In Sykes' music video for "Over and Over Again", "Unfinished Business" can be seen in the video as a movie title hinting for his upcoming debut album.
Lyrics
[Verse 1: Nathan Sykes]
From the way you smile
To the way you look
You capture me
Unlike no other
From the first "hello"
Yeah, that's all it took
And suddenly,
We had each other
[Pre-Chorus: Nathan Sykes]
And I won't leave you
Always be true
One plus one, two for life
Over and over again
[Chorus: Nathan Sykes]
So don't ever think I need more
I've got the one to live for
No one else will do
And I'm telling you
Just put your heart in my hands
Promise it won't get broken
We'll never forget this moment
It will stay brand new
Cause I'll love you
Over and over again
Over and over again
[Verse 2: Ariana Grande]
From the heat of night
To the break of day
I'll keep you safe
And hold you forever
And the sparks will fly
They will never fade
And everyday gets better and better
[Pre-Chorus: Ariana Grande]
And I won't leave you
Always be true, ah
One plus one, two for life
Over and over again
[Chorus: Nathan Sykes with Ariana Grande, Ariana Grande]
So don't ever think I need more

You're stuck on my mind
I'll be all you need
Til the day that I die
I'll love you, woah
Over and over again
[Chorus: Nathan Sykes with Ariana Grande, Ariana Grande]
So don't ever think I need more
