Peaches

Peaches is a female character that Ariana Grande plays in the music videos for "We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)" and "The Boy Is Mine, along with the short film "Brighter Days Ahead".^[1] The main inspiration behind this character is Clementine (Kate Winslet) from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) who is also theorized to be the main inspiration behind Peaches' name since she's nicknamed 'Tangerine' by Joel (Jim Carrey).^[2]

Story[]

We Can't Be Friends[]

On March 1, 2024, a teaser for "We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)" was released, in which Peaches is seen signing a slip to erase a person from her memory.^[3] On March 7th, 2024, the full music video was released, as Peaches underwent a procedure to erase her memory of an ex-lover. Throughout the video, Peaches is seen to slowly regret the procedure, eventually beginning to cry as she begs the doctors to allow her to keep a necklace her ex-lover had given to her. After the doctors refuse, Peaches's memory is wiped, as she thanks the doctors for the successful procedure.^[4]^[5]

The Boy Is Mine[]

On June 7th, 2024, "The Boy Is Mine" music video was released. Peaches is seen creating a love potion for the city mayor, Max Starling.^[6] She is also shown to have a shrine of him. She then sews up an outfit similar to the character, Catwoman, and ventures off into the night to find Starling's apartment. After sneaking inside, Peaches attempts to feed Starling the potion, but he instead throws it against the wall, as he falls in love with Peaches at first sight. As the ending credits roll, Peaches and Starling are seen playing with Peaches's cats.

Brighter Days Ahead[]

On March 28, 2025, the short film "Brighter Days Ahead" was released.^[7] Peaches returns to Brighter Days Inc. 70 years after erasing the memory of her ex from the "We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)" music video, to relive her happiest memories that she preserved with the "Memory Restoration Treatment" one last time. With each memory she relives, they get destroyed for good. Peaches memories include videos of her family members and childhood, her days performing as a pop star for a dedicated fanbase, walking through the broken fragments of her wrecked house she once occupied with her ex then getting abducted by aliens, and getting torn apart and put back together Frankenstein style by her dad. The session ends as Peaches gives a bittersweet but heartfelt look of closure.^[8]
