"Put Your Hearts Up" is Ariana Grande's debut single. The song premiered on Ryan Seacrest's radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM on December 9, 2011. It has been released as a digital download,[1] and was also intended for Grande's debut album Yours Truly. It has been deleted from Ariana's VEVO channel and from YouTube but is currently available on many other channels.
Recording and writing
The writers of this song are reportedly Ariana Grande, BC Jean, Matt Squire, and Martin Johnson. The song includes a sample of the rock band 4 Non-Blondes' song "What's Up?" written by Linda Perry.
Release and cover
Grande let her fans be a part of choosing the single artwork by sharing four possible covers for the single on her Twitter. After they voted using hashtags the one with the most tweets was #HeartsUp3, so this cover was chosen and the release date for "Put Your Hearts Up" was also revealed via her Twitter account.
After premiering on Ryan Seacrest's radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM on December 9th, the song was available for digital download on December 12. The song debuted on the US iTunes Charts at number 61, though after about one day it fell to number 87; afterward, it fell off the US iTunes chart. "Put Your Hearts Up" also peaked at number 25 on the US Pop Songs Chart.
During an interview, Grande confirmed that she hated the song and the video itself, calling it a "terrible first impression". She also revealed that the genre incorporated in the song wasn't the type of music she listens to.
In several interviews during 2013, Grande admitted to having completely disliked "Put Your Hearts Up" and not having an interest in pursuing music of that genre.[2] She expressed a desire to make the type of music she grew up listening to, which was, "urban pop, 90s music."
In an interview in the Rolling Stone she confessed how she felt about "Put Your Hearts Up": "It was geared toward kids and felt so inauthentic and fake. That was the worst moment of my life. For the video, they gave me a bad spray tan and put me in a princess dress and had me frolic around the street. The whole thing was straight out of hell. I still have nightmares about it, and I made them hide it on my Vevo page.”
Music video
The music video for "Put Your Hearts Up" was shot on November 23, 2011, and was directed by Meiert Avis and Jeremy Alter. It was released on YouTube on Ariana's Vevo channel on Valentine's Day, 2012. In the video, Grande walks through the streets of a city sending love to lonely people while dancing and singing. When the music video for "The Way" was released, the music video for "Put Your Hearts Up" was changed to unlisted, meaning it can only be viewed now if you have the original link. However, sometime in April 2014, the video was made public, though somehow on at the end of the week of May 2014, "Put Your Hearts Up" was erased from Grande's Vevo Channel.

Lyrics
[Intro]
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little bit of love maybe we can change the world
[Verse 1]
You think you're so small like you're itty-bitty
Just one match in the lights of the city
Walking up to strangers on the side of the street, like
A quarter in a cup will get the up on their feet, like
You think you're never gonna make your mark
Sit back and watch the world while it falls apart, like
Out of sight, out of mind, like
Like it's just a waste of time, like, like, like
[Hook]
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
I said
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
Sing it if you're with me
All you boys and all you girls
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
[Verse 2]
Wishing on a shooting star in the sky
We can do anything if we try
Can't resurrect Ghandi, resurrect King
But if put our heads together we can do anything
Like, you don't have to be a billionaire
You don't have to have much to show to show much care
Like give a wink, give a kiss
Like give a little happiness, like, like, like
[Hook]
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
I said
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
Sing it if you're with me
All you boys and all you girls
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
[Bridge]
Don't let it bring you down now, down now
Don't let it bring you down now, down now
Ain't got nothing but love now, love now
Ain't got nothing but love now, love now
Don't let it bring you down now, down now
Don't let it bring you down, down now
Ain't got nothing but love now, love now
Ain't got nothing but love now, love now
[Hook]
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
I said
Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hey yeah yeah
Sing it if you're with me
All you boys and all you girls
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little love maybe we can change the world
[Outro]
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little bit of love maybe we can change the world
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
Let me see you put your hearts up, yeah
If we give a little bit of love maybe we can change the world
Hey yeah, yeah yeah yeah
