Commercially, the song debuted atop of the US Billboard Hot 100, being Grande's fourth chart topping single and making her the first artist in history to achieve four number one debuts.

Background

The collaboration was confirmed on April 22, 2020 when Gaga revealed the track list for Chromatica.

Grande stated that she "met a woman [Lady Gaga] who knew pain the same way [she] did... who cried as much as [she] did". She went on to state that "[Lady Gaga] then held [her] hand and invited [her] into the beautiful world of Chromatica and together, [they] got to express how beautiful and healing it feels to [...] cry!"
