"Sweetener" (stylized in all lower case) is the sixth and title track from Ariana Grande's fourth studio album with the same name. It was released through Republic Records on August 17, 2018.
Background
Grande at studio the day that "Sweetener" was recorded on July 30, 2016.[3]
The track was teased in a scene in the "No Tears Left To Cry" music video which displayed what appears to be the entire track list for the album Sweetener.[4] Grande first teased this track back on November 5, 2016 via Instagram.[5] On July 15, 2018, Grande posted a picture of herself listening to “Sweetener” to her Instagram Story.[6]
On July 17, 2018, the Sweetener album track list was revealed on its Instagram account confirming that the song is featured as the sixth track on the album.[7] On July 21, 2018, a paparazzi leaked a snippet of Grande playing the song in her car, if you listen closely you can hear the word "Sweetener", later that day Grande confirmed the snippet.[8][9]

- This was the first song recorded and written for Sweetener.[1]
- This is one of two songs featuring backing vocals by Pharrell Williams, the other one being "R.E.M".
- In the "Song Series" video posted by lyric site Genius, it was shown in a fact, that the chorus of "Sweetener" has the similiar beat, resembling "NICE" by The Carters (Beyoncé and Jay-Z) and "Neon Guts" by Lil Uzi Vert featuring Williams himself, who produced both tracks.[10]
