"You" (stylized in all lowercase; originally titled "It's You") is an unreleased song by Ariana Grande that was the former eight track from her fourth studio album, Sweetener.(Unreleased Icon listen)

Background[]

Grande confirmed the song in an interview with Zach Sang.[1] Grande confirmed that she might release the song at some point during the same interview with Zach, but later confirmed that she doesn't stand by that statement. He then asked if it was still on the album or if it had been replaced. Ariana said it was until the "No Tears Left To Cry" video shoot, where she decided she didn't want it and scribbled out the title on the track-list teaser. She said that the song included a drum sample from an 'iconic band' around the time of March 2018, but she also mentioned a version without the drum sample, but didn't make the cut either.

Grande first tweeted out the word "YOU" and it had lead fans on Twitter to start tweeting out about the song she talked about on the Zach Sang interview, in hopes that Grande was teasing and still planning to release the song publicly on February 26, 2019. Grande responded back to fans and said she didn’t remember saying anything about her releasing the song, but some fans continued to tweeted about it with one of the fans tweeting, "what is it" that she had previously mentioned. Grande's response was "It was for Sweetener but she didn’t make the cut. Apparently I told you, you could have it one day, but I don’t recall. Anyway you just got two albums so let’s circle back to this in a little while.🖤🖤🖤".

Two years later the song leaked in full on October 3, 2021. The 'iconic band' drum sample that was used in the song was later found out to be from TLC’s song "Waterfalls". On June 4, 2023, a high quality version of the song was leaked alongside Grande's solo for "Nobody" and "Obvious" demo.

In a recent 2024 interview with Zach Sang, Zach mentioned that this song still came up on Twitter every now and then and for the very first time in six years they both then discussed briefly about the song, which lead Ariana to acknowledge the song since their last interactions in 2018 for her album, Sweetener.[2] Grande sang some of the lyrics, and said "she loved it" on March 8, 2024.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Remember when you disappeared? (Yuh)
I couldn't find you anywhere (Yuh)
You went away for such a long time
Such a, such a long time (Yuh; oh, why? Why? Why?)
You used to love me anyway (Yuh)
You used to call me all the, all the time (Yuh)
Pretended like you wasn't my type
Wasn't, wasn't my type, no (Oh, why? Why? Why?)

[Pre-Chorus]
But you know what to say, and you hid it away
Like nobody ever before, yeah
Tried to push it away, but you got me to stay
Boy, I've been trippin', and you been knew
And it's all because you

[Chorus]
Live like there ain't, ain't nothin' bettеr
Taste like, like thе rest of forever
You mine 'til the end of time
It-It has always been you (Yuh)
I like how you don't seem to get it
Even though you always could get it
You mine 'til the end of time
It-It has always been you (Yuh)

[Verse 2]
Remember that first December?
All those times I'd sneak over? (Yuh)
It's funny after all of this time
Never thought you'd be mine, no (Oh, why? Why? Why?)

[Pre-Chorus]
But you know what to say, and you hid it away
Like nobody ever before, yeah
Tried to push it away, but I'll stay
Boy, I've been trippin', and you been knew
And it's all because you

[Chorus]
Live like there ain't, ain't nothin' better
Taste like, like the rest of forever
You mine 'til the end of time
It-It has always been you (Yuh)
I like how you don't seem to get it (No, you don't seem—)
Even though you always could get it (Even though you always—)
You mine 'til the end of time (Yeah, yeah)
It-It has always been you (It's always been you, baby; yuh, yuh)

[Breakdown]
Da-da-da-da-dun-dun (Mmm, ayy, yuh)
Da-da-da-da-dun-da-dun
Da-da-da-da-dun-da-dun-dun-dun (Fuck)
Yuh, yuh

[Bridge]
We don't even know where we're goin'
We don't even know what we're doin'
As long as I'm with you, I'm chillin', baby
Yeah, 'cause you

[Chorus]
Live like there ain't, ain't nothin' better (Boy, you look like—)
Taste like, like the rest of forever (Taste like forever, baby)
You mine 'til the end of time
It-It has always been you (It's always, always been you; yuh)
I like how you don't seem to get it (Even though you don't seem)
Even though you always could get it (Don't seem to get it, baby)
You mine 'til the end of time (Yeah)
It-It has always been you (Yuh)

[Outro]
(Yeah, yeah) I-I like how you don't seem to get it
(Boy, you taste—) Even though you always could get it
(Baby, you're mine) You mine 'til the end of time
It-It has always been you (You mine 'til the end of time, baby)
(Yeah, yeah) I like how you don't seem to get it
(Even though) Even though you always could get it (Yuh)
(You're mine) You mine 'til the end of time, baby
It-It has always been you (Yuh)
