Release and Commercial Performance[]
The Best was released on September 27, 2017, by Universal Music Japan. The album was released in four different formats:
- The standard physical / digital editions, featuring 18 tracks.
- The physical deluxe edition, featuring an 18 track CD and a bonus DVD including four music videos.
- The Blu-ray edition, featuring the 18 track CD and a bonus DVD including ten music videos in Blu-ray.
Commercially, The Best charted strongly, opening with 24.7k units sold in its first week. It peaked at number two on the Oricon Albums Chart, and peaked at number one on the Japanese Hot Albums. On the year-end listings for the Oricon Albums Chart, The Best ranked at number 68 for 2017, and at number 73 for 2018.
Reception was mixed following the release of the album. Some critics praised Grande for the project despite not having a wide discography at the time, while others showed frustration with the album being exclusive to Japan.
